Joseph Leonard

I’ve found my new favorite brunch spot! Joseph Leonard is everything you would imagine in a quaint West Village brunch joint and more. From the location on the corner of Waverly and Grove, to the atmosphere and decorations, to the food- it’s an absolute must-try in my book! Joseph Leonard is literally about the size of a studio apartment and only has a few tables, so we had to wait about 45 mins. I wasn’t shocked though, considering we made it there at around 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon. It was WELL worth the wait. Carrie and I both got the avocado toast (I had it with poached eggs and Carrie went for the scrambled) and while you can easily get avocado toast anywhere in NYC, this was some of the best I’ve ever had. It was extremely fresh and it wasn’t loaded with pepper flakes. The eggs were poached to perfection and the toast was soft enough that it wasn’t a pain to nom on. I also loved how it came with a side of leafy greens! We also shared a side of bacon because… BACON. How good does it look?! It was amazing: crunchy and thick, but not too greasy. We split some fresh fruit as well. I was pleased to find that the fruit included peaches and berries. The service was great, but there is definitely something to be said about the hostess. From the moment I walked in and put our name down to heading out the door, she made us feel like we were THE most important customers and while that’s simply a characteristic of good customer service, it really left a lasting impression on me. I definitely suggest popping into Joseph Leonard if you want to explore that area. While you will probably have to wait for some period of time, you can enjoy a beer or a cocktail at the bar! You probably won’t get to sit down, but at least you can stand around and take in the rustic scenery. It’s not a Michelin star restaurant, but a Michelin review I read post brunch suggests Joseph Leonard has a great dinner menu, so I’ll definitely be back for a date night!
